PersonalINN

Basically, PersonalINN is a full-fledged INN news server, with all the power of the internet standard software for news servers. However, it is especially designed for personal use:

• INN consists of many programs. PersonalINN gets rid of all those that are not necessary for personal use.
  
  
• INN must be compiled by the user and is very demanding to configure. PersonalINN is pre-compiled and -configured for personal use. Installation is just a double-click, and the whole necessary configuration and administration is done via the graphical user interface of the PersonalINN.Manager application. No expert knowledge is needed.
  
  
• INN needs to be fed by another news server. This is not possible for personal use. Not only will your Internet service provider be unwilling to individually reconfigure its news server to feed the machine of a customer or even to provide newsgroups the customer requests, it is simply technically impossible as long as your machine has no permanent connection to the Internet and an IP number of its own (because it must be ready to connect when the news server of the Internet service provider wants to feed it). PersonalINN therefore incorporates a special program, newsx (News Exchange) by Egil Kvaleberg, which vis à vis the Internet service provider's news server pretends to be a newsreader and thus fetches the newsgroups (i.e. their articles) of interest instead of getting them fed. This arrangement for PersonalINN permits all configuration settings about desired newsgroups to be done on its side, not on the Internet service provider's news server.
  
  

  

  Since newsx inserts newsx in the Path: header of all articles it fetches, PersonalINN is able to recognize them and (by a corresponding entry in its newsfeeds configuration file) not feed them back to the Internet service provider's news server.
